Privacy Policy

If you subscribe to our updates: your email address, the categories and content types you choose (news, reviews), and whether you have confirmed or unsubscribed. We ask you to confirm by email before we send you anything (double opt-in).

If you email us: the message you send and your email address, so that we can reply. The contact page opens your own email program; nothing is sent to us until you send it.

If you use the search box on the home page: when you describe what you need done, the text you typed is sent to our own search function (hosted for us by Supabase) for the sole purpose of finding tools in our directory that match it. The text is processed in the moment. We do not store it, we do not write it to any log of our own, and we do not link it to you. Like any web request, it reaches the function with technical details such as your IP address, the approximate location that address maps to, your browser type and the time, and our hosting platform may keep standard technical records of requests that include those details; the text you typed is not part of those records. Typing a job title is matched inside your browser and sends nothing to us.

Automatically: like any website, our hosting provider’s servers may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and reliability. We do not currently use an analytics service on this site, and we do not use advertising cookies.

To make the site work the way you left it, it saves a few settings in your browser’s local storage on your own device: your personalization picks (the profession or category you chose), a cached copy of the tool list so the home page loads faster, and, where the comparison feature is switched on, the tools you have selected to compare. This information stays on your device. You can clear it at any time with the Clear controls on the site or by clearing your browser’s site data.

• To send the updates you asked for, filtered to the categories you picked.
• To confirm your subscription and to honour your unsubscribe or preference changes.
• To answer messages you send us.
• To keep the site secure and working.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We send updates only to people who have asked for them and confirmed their address. Every email we send includes our name, our mailing address and a one-click unsubscribe link, as well as a link to change your preferences. You can withdraw consent at any time by using that link or by writing to us. When you unsubscribe we keep your address on file marked as unsubscribed, so that we do not email you again by mistake; if you would rather we erase it completely, ask us (see below) and we will.

We rely on a small number of service providers to run the site:

• Supabase, which hosts our database (including the subscriber list).
• Resend, which delivers our emails.
• Hostinger, which hosts the website.

These providers process information only to provide their service to us. Some of them operate outside Canada, so your information may be stored or processed in other countries, where it may be accessible to courts and authorities under those countries’ laws.

MySoftScout links to software vendors’ sites. Some of those links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy (see how that works). Once you leave our site, the vendor’s own privacy practices apply, and the vendor or its affiliate network may use cookies or similar tools that we do not control.

We keep subscriber information while you are subscribed and, in the minimal form described above, afterwards so that we respect your unsubscribe. Messages you send us are kept as long as needed to deal with them.

You may ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent to email at any time. Write to contact@mysoftscout.com and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

MySoftScout is a business-software directory and is not directed at children.

If we change how we handle personal information — for example, if we add an analytics service — we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
